The Henry County Board of Commissioners has received notice from the city of Lovejoy of its desire to annex about 400 acres of Henry County property into the city.

County attorney Patrick Jaugstetter gave an overview of the process to the board at its May 2 regular meeting. The plan, which is unusual because it crosses a county line, would require all property owners to make application for annexation.

The next step is for the commissioners to meet with the mayor of city council of Lovejoy, and that meeting is being scheduled. After that the county has 30 days to object to the annexation based on certain criteria in state law. Jaugstetter said there are no immediate plans to improve the property in question as far as he knows.
