The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its May 21 regular meeting to approve a $163 million budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year, which begins July 1.

The new budget includes $2.1 million for 20 new police officers and $250,000 for three new positions in the District Attorney’s office, as well as funding for three new E-911 operators and new positions under the sheriff and the solicitor-general. The board decided to absorb the $2.7 million increase in employee health insurance premiums, and the budget includes funding for a 2-percent cost of living adjustment and a 1-percent longevity increase for eligible employees.

A new transportation planner position has also been slotted for the county’s DOT. The detailed budget can be found on the county’s website.
