The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its June 18 regular meeting to approve its project list for the proposed county SPLOST which is expected to be on the November ballot.

If passed it will begin collecting money April 1 of next year, upon the expiration of the current SPLOST, and continue for six years. Officials expect collections of about $245 million over that time, 25 percent of which would be divided among the county’s four cities. A joint meeting with the cities is scheduled for June 26 so that an intergovernmental agreement can be approved in time to place the referendum on the ballot. County officials identified a number of capital projects to be addressed under the new SPLOST at a cost of about $51 million.

The bulk of the rest of the county money will be spent on transportation projects.
