The light rain that moved back into metro Atlanta early Sunday was expected to intensify into Monday, and forecasters said heavy rain could cause minor flooding across north Georgia  through Tuesday.

“It’s not going to get any better, weather-wise, over the course of the day,” Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said Sunday morning.

“The rain will really intensify later on this evening and through the first part of Monday,” Chandley said.

The National Weather Service said 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall over metro Atlanta through Tuesday, with 2 to 3 inches possible in the northwest corner of the state.

The Weather Service said the greatest threat for isolated minor flooding is along and north of a line from Cedartown to Hiawassee.

Sunday rainfall totals through 9 a.m. ranged from .09 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and .25 inch downtown and in Dunwoody to .41 inch in Chamblee and .43 inch in Johns Creek.

In DeKalb County, firefighters were on the scene Sunday morning where a large pine tree came crashing into a house on Hardin Court. The homeowners were out of town, and no injuries were reported.

Chandley said the chance of rain is 100 percent Sunday, 90 percent Monday and 60 percent early in the day on Tuesday.

Temperatures will hold in the mid-40s Sunday afternoon and Sunday night before climbing into the mid-60s Monday afternoon, according to Chandley. Highs Tuesday will be in the low 50s after morning lows in the upper 40s.

Sunny skies are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid-30s.
