Hands On Atlanta will celebrate its 30th birthday on April 13 at Manuel’s Tavern, where the organization hosted its first-ever fundraising event, back in 1989, according to a press release.
A highlight of the evening will be awarding Mayor Shirley Franklin as its 2019 Changemaker of the Year.
Presented by the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, the party will include a silent auction featuring over 60 unique items and experiences, a live acoustic performance by IAMDYNAMITE, and an open bar with heavy appetizers and desserts. Guest emcee and WSB-TV news anchor Blankenship, will add even more energy and fun to the evening.
Hands On Atlanta began in 1989 when 12 friends, struggling to find volunteer opportunities in Atlanta created a more organized and flexible model for volunteerism. What began as a discussion over beers and burgers at Manuel’s has become one of the city’s biggest successes – a people powered solution to help solve Atlanta’s toughest challenges. Hands On Atlanta is now one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world, connecting 20,000 volunteers annually with over 150 non-profit and school partners.
Last year, Hands On Atlanta recognized Arthur Blank as Changemaker of the Year, and for its 30th, Hands On Atlanta is honored to award Mayor Shirley Franklin for her selfless service to the Atlanta community and inspiration for others to do the same.
“Shirley Franklin represents what it means to be a Changemaker in our city. Her long history of volunteerism is evident in her relationships that she continues with students who she has mentored over the years, to the involvement that Franklin has as a civic leader in Atlanta still today. We are excited to recognize Mayor Franklin for her service to our city for many decades,” said Jay Cranman, Hands On Atlanta president and CEO.
