Hall County authorities have identified the 27-year-old man shot and wounded after allegedly assaulting deputies with a machete early Sunday as Justin Matthew Bennett.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. near a mobile home park on Sailors Avenue, Hall sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Mitchell said.
“Deputies responded to an assault call and were met by an assailant who was armed with an edged weapon of some type,” Mitchell said. “The assailant had already injured three victims when uniformed officers arrived.”
Mitchell said Bennett “committed assault against four deputies with a machete. When Bennett failed to cease his aggressive behavior, an officer was forced to shoot.”
Bennett was treated for a non-life threatening wound at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, then booked into the Hall County Jail without bond, charged with four counts of aggravated assault on a peace offier and one count of obstructing an officer.
“Pending the results of the on-going investigation, other charges are pending,” Mitchell said.
