A former Hall County day care worker was sentence Tuesday in the 2014 case of a toddler, who authorities say was burned while in her care.

Eddye Pittmon was found guilty in Hall County Circuit Court of first-degree and second-degree cruelty to a child, and misdemeanor battery. The judge sentenced her to eight years in prison followed by 12 years on probation.

Pittmon and another worker at the now-closed Discovering Basics day care center were accused of not seeking proper medical treatment after 16-month-old Damon Gaddis was burned on his stomach and left leg while in their care.

The day care workers said the burns may have been on the child before he arrived at the center.

Pittmon and her co-worker, Tara Miller, put ointment on the burns, but did not seek more immediate and advanced medical treatment, authorities said.
