City tables final draft of new zoning ordinance

Due to the challenges of holding a public hearing during the state’s shelter-in-place, Lawrenceville has tabled the final draft of the city’s new zoning ordinance. The draft ordinance is available for public comment before and during the May 20 city council meeting.

According to the city, “The purpose and intent of the rewrite has been to create an ordinance containing user-friendly regulations that preserve, protect and promote the public health, safety and general welfare of the residents and businesses in the city of Lawrenceville.”

“The city’s zoning ordinance hasn’t had a complete rewrite in 15 years,” said Chuck Warbington, City Manager. “The new ordinance reflects recent policy direction found in our 2040 Comprehensive Plan, meets industry standards and best practices for modern planning and zoning, and is accessible and enforceable.”

Property owners within city limits are encouraged to view the draft document: www.tinyurl.com/LawrencevilleZoning, and offer feedback to planning@lawrencevillega.org or in person at the May 20 city council meeting.

‘Summer Porch Jam’ poster wins design contest

Suwanee’s Summer Porch Jam poster recently received recognition in ‘Sunshine Artist’ magazine in the Best Layout category in its annual poster competition.

According to the city, “The overall design of the poster was inspired by the lighthearted feel of a warm summer day in the south. The pale, sun-drenched yellow evokes memories of cold lemonade on a wraparound porch, with the sky-blue accent punctuating a perfect summer day.”

Summer Porch Jam is the city’s annual throwback summer block party complete with food trucks, beverages, and musicians playing al fresco throughout Old Town Suwanee.

“The aim of the poster is that it reflects the very essence of the event – the longest day of light hours of the year, hot summer days in the south, hanging out on a porch listening to music and enjoying a drink with friends,” said Suwanee Public Information Officer Abby Wilkerson.

‘Sunshine Artist’ provides readers with reviews of everything from fine art fairs, festivals, and events to small craft shows around the country.
