A Gwinnett County woman escaped from her townhouse after she woke up to find her garage on fire and her car ruined, officials said.

The woman, whose name was not released, awoke to a loud popping sound, Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

She told firefighters that the power went out and she immediately smelled smoke. When she investigated, she saw her garage and car ablaze, Rutledge said.

The woman quickly exited the home and was safely outside when firetrucks and police arrived.

She was evaluated and released at the scene by paramedics for a minor complaint and declined assistance from the American Red Cross. Rutledge said the woman’s family and friends were helping her out.

The fire investigator believes the blaze started in the garage, but the exact cause is currently undetermined and under investigation.
