Gwinnett Technical College has named student Sharon Shelton the winner of its 2011 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership.

The award honors excellence in academics and leadership. Shelton has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s of business administration. She studies interiors at Gwinnett Technical College and has a passion for design.

Shelton is a brain tumor survivor who has overcome many obstacles in her life and is an inspiration to fellow students, the college said.
