Gwinnett County is seeking public input on transportation projects that could be funded by the special purpose sales tax renewal, if it is approved by voters in a Nov. 5 referendum.
Residents interested in participating on the Citizen Project Selection Committee can attend an organizational meeting Aug. 26, from 6:30-9 p.m. The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
Nine members will be selected — four representing homeowners from each commission district; and one each to represent business, the environment, schools, seniors and civic groups.
Georgia Power Co. facilitator Del Clark will moderate the meeting. Participants will split into groups and select representatives among themselves.
Hundreds of letters are being sent this week inviting residents to attend the meeting. The Board of Commissioners is expected to officially vote Tuesday to place a three-year renewal of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax on ballots this fall. Commissioners have previously said that 70 percent of the estimated $498 million in revenue generated from the tax would be spent on transportation projects.
