Head Elementary School has entered a contest to win $60,000 from educational materials company Follett School Solutions.
The Lilburn school submitted a video for the Follett Challenge, which rewards “work applying technology, content and creativity in ways that engage students, foster literacy, and promote critical thinking,” according to a Gwinnett County school district release.
The video utilizes some entertaining effects to showcase different literacy programs at Head Elementary School.
“I just blew my reading goal out of the water,” one student says, thrusting her hand forward as a special-effects stream of water destroys a bottle labeled “reading goals.”
In a project exploring possible careers, another student stands on top of a green screen “roof” while reciting facts about roofing.
The winning video will be decided by the number of votes on the Follett Challenge website. Semifinalists will receive $30,000 and the top school will get $60,000. Semi-finalists will be announced on Feb. 28 and the winner will be announced April 28.
