Gwinnett Commissioners recently approved the purchase of firefighter turnout gear, the protective clothing worn by firefighters when they are engaged in fire suppression activities. Before choosing a winning contractor, vendors were selected by the county to do a wear trial through two seasons to compare how the gear performed.

The annual contract totaling $2,068,275 went to the highest scoring firm, Bennett Fire Products Company.

Through successful negotiations, the county was able to obtain cost savings of approximately $25,230 without any reduction in the scope of the contract.
