The owner of a nonprofit organization that gives free pet food to people who can’t afford needs help to avoid eviction, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen has been in business for more than 20 years, but owner Tom Wargo has fallen behind on the rent for the organization’s Lawrenceville facility. A new owner has taken over the building and served Wargo an eviction notice, Channel 2 reported. Now, Wargo is raising money to get up-to-date on rent and avoid eviction at the end of the month.

More than a year ago, Wargo moved his supplies into 10,000 square feet of storage space with a small storefront, but has been unable to open the retail portion. The organization had to unexpectedly replace a tractor trailer, donation levels have dipped and Wargo was saddled with high medical bills after being injured in a multi-car accident five weeks ago, according to a GoFundMe page.
Daffy’s regularly gives pet food to elderly, homeless and financially distressed people who need help feeding their pets. The organization has also assisted shelters and rescue organizations across the country after natural disasters.
The GoFundMe page to help Daffy's stay open has reached more than $8,300 in donations, nearing its $10,000 goal. For more information, go to the organization's website.
