Gregory Rutledge, Jr., has been convicted of aggravated stalking, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Rutledge, 47, "made violent contact” with his ex-spouse in May 2015 in an incident that was recorded on surveillance tape. The former spouse filed for a temporary restraining order after that incident. Two months later, Rutledge sent threatening text messages and emails to the former spouse.

“Freedom come through me. Therefore do right by me,” read one of the messages, accompanied by a ghost emoji and a key emoji.

Rutledge fired his attorney when jury selection began for the trial last week and represented himself in the case. The jury convicted him after one hour of deliberation on Thursday.
