Gwinnett’s Department of Information Technology Services will receive new jail management system software.
The Commission approved the expenditure with Syscon Justice Systems Ltd. at its Jan. 19 meeting.
Maintenance on the system will cost $43,742 per quarter.
The jail management software system controls and tracks incarcerations and arrests for the pre-trial detention center and correctional facility. In order for both departments to track inmate activity, the inmate management system must be functional 24/7.
Normally, this is an annual contract but Syscon also allows renewal on a quarterly basis. The Sheriff’s Department chose the option to renew quarterly, pending the completed implementation of a new jail management system.
The current system has been in place since 1999 and does not possess the functionality, flexibility, usability and capacity required, the Sheriff’s Department said. The new system is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
