There will soon be more self-access hours at one branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library.
Starting Dec. 10, the Lawrenceville branch's self-access operation will be open on weekends from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Sundays. The service is already offered from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
The library normally opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at noon on Sundays.
The self-serve system, called Open+, was developed by Norcross-based technology company Bibliothecha. It allows customers to enter the library without a librarian or attendant and launched in June.
Customers who are over the age of 18 and in "good standing" can get their books without a librarian's help. The service costs a one-time $5 fee, according to a news release.
The Lawrenceville branch is the first library in North America to use the self-access operation. All 15 of Gwinnett's library branches have self-serve kiosks inside to allow customers to check out books by themselves.
