Gwinnett County Commissioners Tuesday approved a three-quarter mile extension of the Ivy Creek Greenway trail near the Mall of Georgia.

The 12-foot-wide concrete extension, which will cost $2.2 million, will extend the trail to 4.4 miles. It will feature three wood boardwalks, a 270-foot cable bridge, an overlook platform and restrooms.

Funding comes from a $1 million state and federal transportation grant and the 2005 and 2009 SPLOST sales tax programs. Astra Group Inc. was the low bidder for the construction, which should be finished by the end of this year.
