Gwinnett commissioners on Tuesday approved two communities in Snellville to participate in the county’s street lighting program.

Eleven of 19 homeowners, representing 58 percent of residents, in Brackenwood subdivision voted in favor of inclusion into the program. The estimated upfront capital cost of $3,022 covers the installation of seven streetlights by Walton EMC. The projected annual revenue and operating costs for inclusion of Brackenwood into the program is $903.

Twenty-four of 45 homeowners in the Graystone North community, or 53 percent, also voted to join the program. The estimated upfront capital cost of $10,119.47 covers the installation of 17 streetlights by Walton EMC. The projected annual revenue and operating costs for adding Graystone North into the program is $2,193.

The 2009 SPLOST program will fund the capital installation costs for both neighborhoods.
