Groups and governments in Gwinnett and DeKalb are coming together to fund a study looking into how traffic can be improved along a major thoroughfare.
The research, which costs $200,000, will focus on the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Mountain Industrial Boulevard corridor between I-85 and East Ponce de Leon Avenue. The north-south connector stretches about 6.6. miles, beginning near Norcross and ending in Tucker.
Gwinnett County and the city of Tucker are supporting the study along with three community improvement districts: Tucker Summit CID, Gateway85 CID and Lilburn CID. CIDs are self-taxing business districts that support local infrastructure improvements and economic development.
According to a draft of the study proposal, it will analyze current traffic patterns and come up with possible transportation and safety projects that the groups and governments could implement in the future. The study is also set to involve several community engagement meetings.
A contractor has not yet been selected to conduct the research.
Gwinnett is set to contribute $67,000 in SPLOST funds toward the project, while the remainder will be split among the other agencies.
