They say in life, timing is everything. I couldn’t agree more. It seems more often than not, my timing is always off. Whether it’s pulling into the McDonald’s drive-thru, two minutes after they stop serving breakfast, or getting caught in a downpour while walking my dogs, it seems I sometimes have the worst timing.

In traffic, timing is quite often everything. From just missing or making a traffic light, to just exiting off a freeway right before the gridlock hits, if timing isn’t on your side, you could be driving an uphill battle.

Poor timing happens to me quite often while listening to the radio. Have you ever gotten in your car, turned on the radio and just caught the tail end of a traffic report or missed it all together. Before last week, you might have had to wait, six, ten, fifteen or even up to thirty minutes to hear another traffic report. Those of us with poor timing when it comes to traffic reports got a huge gift last week — the newly updated WSB Radio app for iPhones and Android devices.

The new app comes with lots of cool features, but the one that really stands out to me is the “On-Demand Traffic” feature.

That’s right, on-demand traffic. The app plays the last traffic report heard on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB. Just miss a traffic report? No problem, use the app. Not quite sure what I said the alternate route was? No problem just use the app.

Once you download the app to your mobile device, using the traffic function is easy.

“Simply open the app, tap ‘On-Demand’ from the main menu and then tap the traffic button,” said Fisher, the digital content manager for CMG Radio Atlanta. “Within two minutes the latest traffic report is available to you via our app.”

The addition of the traffic function was a must-have according to Fisher, who goes by just one name.

“Traffic in Atlanta affects everyone in one way or another and we are the ones who get you around it. It is one of our most looked at features on WSBradio.com. We wanted to make it even more available to you,” Fisher said.

To me, one of the biggest benefits of the app is being able to “re-listen” to a traffic report that you might have just heard. Despite the fact that I’ve been reporting on traffic for almost 17 years in Atlanta, even I sometimes don’t catch every detail during a report on the radio. With the new app, you can listen to a report again to make sure you get all of the information.

“We added on-demand traffic to the app so you can have the power of WSB Triple Team Traffic in your hands, when you want it,” Fisher said.

I suspect that this feature will quickly become the most popular on the app, and I wouldn’t be surprised if other radio and TV stations start adding it to their respective mobile apps. They need to move quickly though, as we know timing is everything.
