DeKalb County has approved grant funding that aims to support nearly 60 nonprofits heading into 2020.

The grants, totaling about $851,000, will be awarded to 58 groups that assist DeKalb County through various social services, the county said in a statement.

The nonprofits will be chosen based on a “competitive evaluation process,” the county said. The grants will range from $10,000 to $25,000.

“During this grant cycle, DeKalb was able to extend the reach of the Human Services Department and support agencies that deliver extremely important and critical services countywide,” Human Services Director Damon Scott said in a statement.

Service areas that the nonprofits cover will include youth and family development, crisis intervention and prevention, homelessness and supporting individuals with disabilities, the county said.

The funding was previously approved by the DeKalb Board of Commissioners. About $617,800 of the financing will come from the county’s general fund, and $233,400 from a victims assistance fund.
