Volunteers needed to help make a difference
Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care is seeking compassionate volunteers throughout the Atlanta area to provide comfort, companionship and a helping hand to terminally-ill patients and their families in their homes, in assisted living facilities and nursing facilities.
In recognition of Veterans Day, Crossroads is offering a special invitation to those who have served in the military to volunteer and share their unique life experiences and help address the needs of hospice patients who are Veterans.
Volunteers are also welcome to help Crossroads staff in the office, including planning a “Gift of a Day,” which asks a patient to describe a perfect day and then makes it a reality.
Volunteers can donate as little as 45 minutes per week and share their favorite activities like reading, card games, playing music, or arts and crafts. Student volunteers are also welcome; they must be 16 years or older.
Before becoming a Crossroads “Ultimate Giver,” participants must complete an application, flu shot, TB skin test, and training session led by members of the Crossroads team. Potential volunteers must wait a minimum of one year after the death of an immediate family member or loved one before applying.

Help four-legged residents
Furkids offers many opportunities. Atlanta’s largest no-kill animal shelter, Furkids is one of the only shelters in Georgia that welcomes children of all ages to volunteer at its locations in Doraville, Norcross, Alpharetta and throughout Atlanta.
Kids of all ages and their families can provide temporary homes for dogs and cats. If that’s not an option, consider fund-raising efforts, such as dog washes or lemonade stands, to raise money for the shelter. Other hands-on opportunities are available.
