March 23, 2014

A 13-year-old girl died Saturday afternoon as a result of injuries she sustained in a wreck in Forsyth County.

Kayla Pirkle was a passenger in a 1998 Acura TL driven by her 19-year-old sister, Kori Pirkle of Cumming, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said. Kori Pirkle was driving east on Martin Road and making a left turn onto Shadburn Road around 1:20 p.m. when their vehicle collided with a westbound 2008 Ford F-250 driven by Jason Kenney of Cumming, the news release said. The impact of the crash was on the passenger’s side of the Acura, where Kayla was sitting, according to Deputy First Class Andrew Ives of the sheriff’s office.

Kayla Pirkle was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where she later died, authorities said. Kori Pirkle was treated for minor injuries at North Fulton Hospital and released.

Kenney and his two passengers were not injured, Ives said.

The wreck remains under investigation.
