Though previously stating otherwise Terry Giager, Avondale Estates’ acting mayor since last October, told the AJC he may wind up running for mayor after all. The city’s holding a special election March 17, with qualifying set for next week.

Giager said he doesn’t know of anyone planning to run, adding that if no one applies “I might do it.”

In the past three months Giager’s been the city’s most visible spokesman in meeting with neighborhood groups regarding annexation. He’s also been one of the lead persons reviewing plans with Euramex Management, which will develop 17 acres downtown. If he does qualify, Giager isn’t sure if by law he’d have to drop off the board until March’s election.

“I can’t see doing that,” he said. “The next two months are going to be very important and busy.”
