A 13-year-old boy who had his right leg amputated below the knee after an alleged incident at school has been released from an Atlanta hospital and is back home in Columbus, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported.
“His normal smile is back on his face and that’s probably one of the best things to see,” attorney Renee Tucker told the newspaper. “He looks forward to getting his prosthetic, because he wants to be able to learn to do more.”
Montravious Thomas was injured in September in an alleged incident with a contract teacher at an alternative school in Columbus, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. The teacher, Bryant Mosley, allegedly threw Thomas to the floor multiple times.
Part of Thomas’ broken tibia severed veins that provided blood flow to his foot, the Ledger-Enquirer previously reported. The surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston was in October.
The Muscogee County School District said Mosley used state-approved guidelines for restraint. However, he is no longer associated with the district.
Legal action is planned because of the situation, Tucker said. Medical expenses alone could top $1 million, said attorney Forrest Johnson, who also represents Thomas.
