Georgia-Pacific is less than a month away from closing another plywood production plant due to the downturn in homebuilding and commercial construction.

The Atlanta-based company is halting production at its Hawthorne, Fla., plywood mill, affecting nearly 400 jobs.

Earlier this month, Georgia-Pacific announced it was indefinitely suspending its plywood and stud manufacturing operation in Crossett, Ark., affecting 700 jobs.

Georgia-Pacific spokeswoman Tricia Bowles told First Coast News the Hawthorne plant is still on track to close Oct. 14, saying low demand continues to plague production.

"Weak demand for home building and remodeling has devastated the plywood mill over the past few years," Bowles said.
