A Georgia man was arrested Wednesday in connection to a killing that happened 25 years ago in Washington, D.C.

Michael Henderson was taken into custody by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service at his workplace and charged with second degree murder while armed for allegedly stabbing his wife in 1987.

New evidence in the case was found and presented to a grand jury, which indicted Henderson on May 22. The U.S. Marshals Service was able to find Henderson in Rockdale, where he had been living with a new wife since 2010.

“I hope that this apprehension will bring closure to the victim’s family and friends in this decades-old case,” Rockdale Sheriff Eric Levett said.

Authorities said Henderson has an extensive criminal history. He is currently being held in a federal facility in Atlanta and is awaiting extradition to Washington.
