The newly constructed three-story building on Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville will have a new tenant this month, the Georgia DOT.
District Engineer, Brent Cook, P.E. said, “The relocation of the district staff will position the Northeast region’s headquarters closer to downtown Gainesville. We hope this will help encourage public involvement with citizens, enhance our ability to utilize technology, and respond to emergencies more efficiently by serving as the command center.”
The campus of Georgia DOT maintenance buildings on Athens Highway, State Route 11/U.S. 129 will remain in place.
The new location will house district office staff. Cook added, “The decision to move is a wise decision for several reasons, mainly because the current building was constructed in the early 1960’s and renovations would be costly and slow.”
The department will inhabit most of the first floor and the entire second floor. Georgia DOT staff will be moving in and getting settled to the new location through the end of Dec. and will be ready to serve the public on or hopefully prior to Jan. 1at the new building.
The current district building located on 2505 Athens Highway will be locked during business hours beginning Jan. 1.
