The performance of Georgia 8th-graders on the state's writing exam dipped in 2012, with 82.3 percent of those tested meeting or exceeding expectations.

Last year, 82.7 percent of 8th-graders in the state met or exceeded expectations.

Students in Gwinnett County Public Schools improved their performance on the writing exam, with 93.2 percent meeting or exceeding expectations. Last year, 92.6 percent of those tested met or exceeded expectations.

Student writing performance in Cobb (86.5 percent), DeKalb (73.5 percent), Fulton (88.9 percent) and Atlanta Public Schools (80.6 percent) slid from last year.
