The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold an open house to share plans to replace the State Route 11 Bridge over the Apalachee River, 7.5 miles north of Monroe. The public meeting will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at Bethlehem City Hall, 750 Manger Avenue in Bethlehem.
The existing bridge was built in 1942 and does not meet current design standards. It is 200 feet long and 24 feet wide. The new bridge will be 280 feet long and 40 feet wide, with a pedestrian walkway and an area to move a vehicle out of traffic if needed.
