Construction crews are returning to the recently completed roundabout at Houze and Hembree roads in Roswell, after the Georgia Department of Transportation found asphalt laid by a GDOT contractor did not meet state standards, city officials said.

The pavement replacement will be paid for by the contractor. It is scheduled to start the week of Dec. 11 but will be heavily dependent on the weather, officials said.

“To properly install asphalt, the air temperature must be above 40 degrees,” officials said. “The contractor will be closely monitoring the forecast and will proceed accordingly. The repaving may require several days to complete, depending on weather.”

The roundabout will remain open, but drivers should expect temporary lane closures, officials said.

The project replaced a standard, signalized intersection with one of the first multi-lane roundabouts on a state route in Georgia, Houze (Ga. 140). The $4.4 million project was funded by GDOT. Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering, design and right-of-way acquisition.
