A man is dead following an overnight shooting early Monday in LaGrange.

The GBI said it is investigating the shooting death of Jazmen Glanton, 29, and a subsequent officer-involved shooting at the Tall Pines Apartments on Turner Street. LaGrange police responded to a call at the apartment complex about 1:10 a.m.

According to a news release, Glanton was involved in a fight with his girlfriend, Phatrial Simms, 25. Simms’ 19-year-old brother, Patrick Reeves, called police, the release said.

A responding officer, Megan Keith, arrived moments later and said she witnessed Reeves shoot Glanton, the release said. Keith gave Reeves “verbal commands” before firing, wounding him in the arm, the release said.

Glanton was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Reeves sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

The GBI said no officers were injured.

The incident is the eighth officer-involved shooting in Georgia this year.

GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said no one has been charged in the matter. The bureau is investigating both the homicide and the officer-involved shooting and will turn over results of that investigation to the district attorney for the Coweta Judicial Circuit.
