"The Supreme Court is ruling on what God says is valid or not."

That's state Sen. Mike Crane, R-Newnan, on the impending ruling on same-sex marriage, expected late this month.

Even many opponents of gay marriage expect that the ruling will not go their way, and they're making plans for sustained political and legal combat, beginning almost right away.

One of the first items on the agenda is the "religious libety" legislation that has failed in the last two sessions of the Legislature. But that's only the beginning.

Social conservatives are branding a potential nationwide legalization as a "Roe v. Wade for marriage." They forecast a campaign that mirrors the continued fight over the Supreme Court's abortion ruling 42 years ago.
