After peaking at $3.95 last week, metro Atlanta gas prices are slowly retreating.

Monday morning’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.92, according to atlantagasprices.com, a website that tracks the cost of gasoline.

Last week, the average skyrocketed from $3.80 on Monday to $3.95 on Wednesday as Hurricane Isaac forced the evacuations and shutdown of Gulf drilling rigs and refineries.

Prices began gradually dropping over the holiday weekend.

Even with the slight drop, Atlanta’s average price Monday was still 13 cents above the national average of $3.79.

The cheapest price reported Monday by atlantagasprices.com was $3.67 at a Chevron station in Duluth, while the most expensive price was $4.19 at several stations in Buckhead.

Statewide, the lowest price was $3.48 at a Marathon station in the Savannah suburb of Georgetown.
