A rush-hour gas main leak caused major traffic backups in DeKalb County for hours Wednesday.

Crews worked to repair the leak at Lawrenceville Highway and DeKalb Industrial Way, Atlanta Gas Light spokeswoman Kristie Swink Benson said.

A gas line was accidentally ruptured around 4 p.m. during construction work, Channel 2 Action News reported. Two businesses were evacuated and the intersection was closed.

Benson said she did not know of any homes or businesses in the area that were without gas service during the incident.

The roads were reopened just before 10 p.m.
