The Cherokee County Educational Foundation said its inaugural Celebration of Education gala in March netted $50,000 for foundation programs supporting the Cherokee County School District.
The foundation’s programs include IMPACT grants awarded to district teachers and students with innovative ideas. Eight such grants were distributed in February, to the tune of $15,000, for projects ranging from an oral history recording studio to gardening labs for elementary school students.
The nonprofit group’s event also featured the launching of an Alumni of the Year award. Foundation officials also revealed a campaign to establish a Cherokee County Educators Hall of Fame.
