Gainesville’s iconic big green truss bridge on State Route 369 was recently awarded to a contractor for replacement. Scott Bridge Company, Inc. of Opelika, Alabama, will replace the 62-year-old bridge, known as Browns Bridge, that carries traffic over Lake Lanier. The construction, totaling $27 million, is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2020.
Eight other bridges in the Northeast Region will get some needed attention through bridge rehabilitation projects in Hall and Habersham counties. These projects will improve the driving surface and replace expansion joints including: U.S. 441 Bus/S.R. 105 over S.R. 365 in Habersham, U.S. 123 over S.R. 365 in Habersham, S.R. 365 (U.S. 23) over S.R. 197 in Habersham, S.R. 15 (U.S. 23) over Big Panther Creek in Habersham, and S.R. 365 (U.S. 23) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Hall.
Louis-Company, LLC of Lees Summit, Missouri will complete this work by Oct. 2018, for the contract amount of $485,986.
Two resurfacing projects were awarded to the Northeast region; one in Gwinnett and one in Jackson County. Roadsafe Traffic Systems, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, will complete a total of 10.4 miles of resurfacing on I-85 in Gwinnett for $936,445 in May 2018. This project starts north of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and extends to north of Old Peachtree Road.
Jackson County will have a smoother ride on S.R. 11 south of S.R. 11 Business extending north of S.R. 332. Pittman Construction Company of Conyers will complete the resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of the 6-mile project by Sept. 2018 for $4,633,941.
Before construction begins on these awarded construction projects, information pertaining to traffic shifts and lane closures will be communicated to the public.
