The Fulton County Board of Commissioners Wednesday postponed action on a plan to lay off more than 200 employees.
Under a proposal drafted by County Manager Dwight Ferrell, the county library system would take the biggest hit, with 98 employees out of a job, including 70 part-timers who are already gone. The county’s soon-to-close homeless shelters, facilities and transportation department, workforce development office and health department also would see double-digit employee losses.
Under Ferrell’s proposal, the county would lay off 214 employees, including 58 full-timers, 86 temporary employees and the 70 part-time library employees who have already lost their jobs. The proposal also calls for eliminating 50 vacant positions. The affected employees will be notified beginning May 20, and the layoffs would take effect June 30.
Commissioners postponed action on the layoffs for two weeks.
