Alpharetta has started construction on a renovation project in Wills Park.

The city will update the public pool facilities at the park, which have not been renovated since 1987. The project also includes the construction of a new competition pool, a new leisure pool, shade pavilions and other amenities.

The total spent will be $5,731,983, which includes $255,065 in owner’s contingency, Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said.

Funding for the project is provided through the 2016 Alpharetta Parks and Transportation Bond and general capital funds.

Construction on the project began last month and is expected to be completed spring 2018.

Sunbelt Builders is the construction firm executing the project designed by Stevens & Wilkinson, Inc.

The project will also include renovations of the bathhouse and showers, training rooms for lifeguards and staff, and more interior upgrades.
