Just about every kid has wondered how a firetruck works.

How does it shoot out water? How does the ladder work? How do the firefighters climb into it?

At “Touch-A-Truck” in Roswell and Johns Creek on Saturday, citizens of all ages can find out. The event kicks off National Public Works Week.

It allows kids and adults alike to learn how a street sweeper or sanitation truck works, but also shows off law enforcement vehicles, like police patrol cars.

Roswell will host its event from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Roswell City Hall, while Johns Creek has its event from 10 a.m. to noon at Newtown Park.

For Johns Creek, in addition to learning about public works equipment that makes the city run, the event features children’s activities such as face painting, a giant sandbox with prizes, caricature artist, bounce houses and food. The Johns Creek Veterans Association will hand out hot dogs and water and will accept donations.

Both events are free.
