The 2020 census count officially kicks off this month, and the city of Brookhaven wants to make sure all of its residents are tallied.

To spread awareness about the census, Brookhaven is hosting a free, family-friendly festival on March 14 with games, food and bouncy houses.

The Salvation Army, The Latin American Association, We Love BuHi, Los Vecinos de Buford Highway, Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Telemundo and Skyland United Methodist Church are all helping to put on the event.

“The festival will be focused on growing the community’s awareness of the upcoming census, how to participate, and its effect on funding and political representation of our community,” the city said in a statement.

The event is set to run from noon to 4 p.m. at Northeast Plaza, located at 3307 Buford Highway.

Households will begin getting postcards in the mail this month inviting them to take the census survey online, which is an option for the first time in 2020. Residents can also respond through a paper survey.
