A 21-year-old college student from Cobb County was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash near Fort Valley State University, where she was a senior.

Taylor Moore of Powder Springs was a mass communications major and a peer counselor, the university said Friday. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

FVSU police chief Kenneth Morgan said Moore was driving along the south end of Carver Drive in Peach County when the wreck occurred.

“We are devastated by this loss as the death of any member of Fort Valley State’s community impacts us all,” Jessica Bailey, FVSU interim president, said in an emailed statement. “On behalf of the campus community, we offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

The university will hold a memorial service for Moore on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the C.W. Pettigrew Center, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony along the Wildcat Plaza near the Greek Walk.

Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, the university is asking that donations be made to the Go Fund Me account set up to assist the family with funeral costs.
