Forsyth County commissioners have proposed what they say are some of the lowest property tax millage rates in metro Atlanta, leaving unchanged the maintenance and operating and fire rates while reducing the bond rate.

Public hearings on the proposed millage rates are set for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, July 5, and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 19, in Suite 220 of the County Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming. The Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on the rates at a meeting to start at 6:30 p.m., July 19.

The M&O rate would remain 4.642 mills, and the fire rate, 1.975 mills, officials said. The bond rate would drop one-tenth of a mill, to 1.319 mills. These rates will fund the county’s 2019 general operating budget now in development.

Forsyth’s tax digest will grow 8.02 percent; M&O property taxes levied by the county this year will increase by a net 4.46 percent over the rollback millage rate, officials said. New construction in 2017 added 3.41 percent to the tax digest, and increased values from reassessments, 4.61 percent.
