Forsyth County officials took another step toward turning the old Lanierland Music Park in northeast Forsyth into a county park.
The Board of Commissioners last week gave parks chief Jim Pryor permission to seek demolition options for the music arena, concrete fencing and a cabin on the property. Pryor told commissioners that, with phase one plans now submitted to the county engineering department for permitting, he wanted to move ahead with demolition to avoid any developmental delays.
Phase one plans include four rectangular athletic fields, a restroom/concessions building and a picnic pavilion. No timetable for construction’s been set.
The county bought the former music venue in 2009 with money from a parks bond issue approved by voters. The 109-acre park on Jot Em Down Road closed in 2006.
