Interim Fire Chief Barry Head will be sworn in as Forsyth County’s fourth fire chief at a ceremony Thursday, Jan. 17 officials announced.

Head has served as interim chief since Oct. 17, when he was appointed to that post by County Manager Eric Johnson after the retirement of Chief Danny Bowman.

The new chief’s swearing-in will take place during the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners meeting, to start at 5 p.m. in the Forsyth Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming.

A veteran of more than 25 years with the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department, Head most recently was division chief, field operations, responsible for the daily field operations of the department, as well as supervision of the six battalion chiefs, station operations and emergency response.

“The Forsyth County Fire Department has very good leadership throughout the organization, and the department was headed in the right direction,” Johnson said. “Because of this, we knew we wanted to promote from within.”
