Forsyth County residents are invited to participate in a household hazardous waste recycling and disposal event the first weekend in May at the Cumming Fairgrounds.

The collection is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in parking lot 3 of the fairgrounds, 235 Castleberry Road. The sponsors are Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, its corporate partners, Forsyth County and the city of Cumming. There is no charge, but a $5 donation is requested.

Items accepted include aerosol paints, automotive products such as fluids, batteries, cleaners, cooking oils and grease, flammable liquids including gasoline, fluorescent light bulbs, glues and epoxy, lawn care products, paints and stains, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane gas cylinders and solvents and varnishes. Electronics, including computers, laptops and televisions, also will be taken.

Not accepted: Medical waste, needles, ammunition, explosives and pharmaceuticals. For a list of products accepted or not: https://bit.ly/2UNXTE3

“This event provides a great opportunity for residents to responsibly recycle household hazardous materials,” said Forsyth Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright. “Things people use every day, such as cleaning supplies and paint cans, can be hazardous not only to people but the environment if not disposed of properly.”
