The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a public hearing for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Forsyth Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming to discuss extending an emergency, temporary moratorium on certain land disturbance permits.

The commission adopted the temporary moratorium Aug. 9 and now seeks to extend it to Dec. 7 while it updates the code.

The problematical footnote applies to the build-out of properties zoned “Res3.” Minimum lot sizes can vary depending on which version of the Development Code was in effect when a property was zoned, a county spokeswoman explained. Prior to 2007, for example, Res3 zoning allowed 9,000-square-foot lots. The minimum today is 14,750 square feet.

“The objective of the Board of Commissioners is to take these varied lot size(s) out of the equation,” the spokeswoman said in an email. “The moratorium is in place to allow the county to modify the UDC while maintaining the status quo with respect to permitting.”
