The Forsyth County Board of Education has announced a tentative school tax millage rate of 17.300 mills, unchanged since 2015, and a public hearing on the rate starting at 6 p.m., July 5, in the district’s Central Office Building, 1120 Dahlonega Highway, Cumming.

Additional hearings are set for 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., July 17, in the same location, with the school board meeting at 6 p.m. that day to vote on the rate. The proposed rate is a tax increase, as it’s 0.997 mills above the rollback rate. District officials say it’s still the lowest school millage rate in metro Atlanta and among school districts with more than 30,000 students.

The district forecasts a total school tax levy for 2018 of $200.2 million, up $17.9 million or 9.8 percent from $182.3 million last year. The current 2018 tax digest and 5-year history of levy can be downloaded from: https://bit.ly/2yJIU43

A home with a fair market value of $325,000 would see a tax increase of $127.62; and a non-homestead property of the same value, $129.61, officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/2K73sZH
