Forsyth County Division Fire Chief Barry Head has been named interim chief, effective Oct. 17, following the retirement of Fire Chief Danny Bowman after 50 years of service, the county announced.

Head, appointed interim chief by County Manager Eric Johnson, has been with Forsyth County since 1990. He began as a dispatcher in the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office and was promoted three times, achieving the rank of sergeant. In 1997, he transferred to the Fire Department as a fire inspector.

Head became a firefighter in 1999 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2001, and to division chief, fire marshal, in 2012. He has served as division chief, field operation, since 2017, responsible for daily field operations, supervision of the six battalion chiefs, and command of all fire station operations and emergency response.

He has earned certificates in 20 areas ranging from fire investigation to terrorism, and a certification in management development from the University of Georgia.
